From the Principal's Desk
It was wonderful to see so many families participate in International Walk to School Day. What a great way to exercise and get those juices flowing so students arrive alert and ready to learn.
We are fortunate to have been awarded a Massachusetts Cultural Council STARS Residency grant to supplement PTO funds. This funding will allow us to create a mural in our front hall stairway. The theme will be "Love of Learning". Special thanks go to Sheryl Kalis for helping to develop this concept and for successfully writing this grant. Muralist David Fichter will be working with our art teacher, Amy Broder, to collect student drawings that will be transferred to six dolphin shaped murals, one for each grade level. The dolphins will represent how learning and knowledge expand year after year. Students will collaborate on the numerous steps involved in completing the final mural. Older students will have the opportunity to further embellish the project with glass tiles. We are excited to provide this enriching experience for our students. You will be invited to view the final product at our annual Art Show in the spring.
Our annual Halloween Hoot will take place on Wednesday, October 31 at 9:00 in our gymnatorium. You are welcome to join us.
During the month of October, the elementary special education administrative restructuring committee is holding a series of focus groups to listen and gather input from principals, special education staff, and parents. We are inviting parents to participate in one of two focus groups on October 24th (see below).
As you know NPS is in the process of restructuring the administrative team of the elementary special education department. In addition to researching how other districts are organized, we are asking for input from principals, special education staff, and parents. We invite you to attend a focus group designed to listen and gather information from stakeholders across the district. The format of the group will be to briefly explain the goals of the committee and then listen to your thoughts and ideas.
The dates/times are:
All the sessions will take place at the Ed Center in Room 210. 100 Walnut Street. Room 210 is on the main floor next to the superintendent's office. Thank you in advance for your participation.
