From the Principal's Desk
We are grateful to be adding five new laptops paid for by the district and ten laptops from our PTO. It is exciting to have this updated technology for student use.
On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, we will hold our annual orientation for parents of incoming kindergarten children at 7:00 PM. A panel of Ward staff members, including our kindergarten teachers, will provide an overview of the kindergarten experience. To register, students must turn five by August 31, 2013. We have the names of some children through the Newton census, but would appreciate your help in getting the word out. If you know any families with an eligible kindergartner, please have them contact Ms. Tempesta at our school. Thank you.
You are invited to join the annual Newton Martin Luther King Community Celebration, on January 21st, at 9:30 AM. This year it will take place at Temple Beth Avodah, 45 Puddingstone Lane, Newton. The event will feature Newton's All City Treble Singers, Newton North's Jubilee Singers, and student readings from Brown, Oak Hill, and Newton South.
Students in grades K, 2, and 5 will be participating in CAPP (Child Assault Prevention Program) this year. This program seeks to prevent child abuse by training children to recognize and deal with potentially dangerous situations and by helping parents and teachers support children in this endeavor. Ward will be hosting a Parent Information meeting on Thursday, January 3, 2012 at 8:30 AM in our cafe. This is an opportunity to hear practical advice on keeping our children safe.
During these challenging times, we are reminded of all our blessings. I hope that you will be able to take a moment during this upcoming holiday season to cherish what you have and to thank those around you. The staff and I thank you for your support as we work together to make Ward School such a special place.
