From the Principal's Desk
As the year draws to a close we will sadly be saying good-bye to a number of Ward staff members.
After over 20 years of teaching at Ward, Grade 3 Teacher Margie Turetz has decided to retire. Arnie Harris, Instrumental Music Teacher, will be retiring from Newton, but will continue to teach at the Perkins School. Chris MacPherson, Physical Education Health and Wellness Teacher, has accepted a teaching position closer to home.
Due to a reorganization of Special Education Services, there will be a number of personnel changes that impact our staff.
- Jennifer Mead, Learning Center Teacher, has been transferred to Peirce School.
- Katy Dearborn, Inclusion Facilitator, is moving to Memorial Spaulding to be a team specialist.
- Dr. Jordanna L'Esperance-Chouinard will be leaving her part-time position at Ward to be a full time psychologist at Bigelow.
- Carolyn Hatje, Occupational Therapist, will be taking on a new position.
In addition to these changes:
Amy Lucenta, Math Coach, has resigned her position.
Mary Manning, Instructional Technology Specialist, has been transferred to another Newton school.
Nancy Murray and Lyta Galy Dimijian will be leaving their positions in the ELL Department.
Classroom Assistants Briana Brown, Lisa Rideout, Laurie Filreis, Kara Thibeault, Ian Applegate and Building Substitute, Amy Tai, will also be leaving us.
It is difficult to lose these valued members of our staff. I know you join me in wishing them well in their new endeavors.
Due to the fundraising efforts of our PTO and your financial support at the Spring Auction, we are ordering 4 iPads for each kindergarten, first, and second grade classroom and four laptops for each classroom in grades three, four and five. It is exciting to have this infusion of technology available for next year. Thank you for your support.
To make the most efficient use of our resources, all Newton elementary schools will be emailing class placement lists on August 23. The last day of school will be Wednesday, June 26, with a 12:00 dismissal.
The Early Release dates for 2013-2014 are:
February 5 (Wednesday)
The MCAS switch day will be Tuesday, March 18 (3:00 dismissal) and Wednesday, March 19 (12:30 dismissal).
In closing, I want to thank you for your involvement in your child's education. Whether you have assisted in the library, art room, or your child's classroom; participated in our PTO; chaperoned a field trip; planned a celebration; prepared materials at home; or countless other tasks, I want you to know how much the staff and I truly appreciate your contribution to our school community.
HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!
