From the Principal's Desk
On Tuesday we completed a practice walk to our evacuation site, Temple Emanuel, as part of our safety plan. The Newton Police followed the group and directed traffic so that everyone could cross streets safely. We were fortunate to have a beautiful fall day and enjoyed the invigorating walk. Third graders even collected leaves for their tree study along the way.
We are proud to announce that Ward School was one of the forty-eight schools in Massachusetts that was commended by the state for MCAS scores. Our scores demonstrated high achievement and high progress. Overall scores placed us in the 99%ile for the state. Kudos go to our amazing students and the dedicated and talented staff here at Ward.
If you have a child in grades three, four or five, note the MCAS dates for the coming year. Please make every effort to have your child in school on these days.
- English/Language Arts March 17-31
- Math May 5-20
- Science and Technology (for grade five only) May 5-20
As we get closer to the test administration, we will send out a more detailed schedule.
Also note that Tuesday, March 18, will be a 3:00 dismissal for all Newton elementary schools and Wednesday, March 19, will be a 12:30 dismissal. This change is to accommodate the writing prompt for fourth grade students that must be administered on March 18 and requires a full day to complete.
Our next early release Thursday will be on October 10. At that time, teachers will be engaged in professional development focused on our new writing program under the direction of our literacy specialist, Hannah Franklin.
Parent-teacher conferences will be taking place October 24 - November 7. Teachers are looking forward to working with you on common goals for your child's growth.
