From the Principal's Desk
I am happy to report that Audrey Peller is still recovering nicely from her recent surgery. There is still no confirmed date for her return, but she is eager to get back as soon as she is able. She and I speak frequently by phone, and she misses everybody at Ward.
The persistent snow has created another weather related postponement. The Naomi Singer Read-In, which was scheduled for this past Wednesday, will now take place next Wednesday, February 12, beginning at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria. A pizza dinner will be served at 5:45, and then we will break into small groups to discuss a selected book that will be read-aloud to the small group. Books have been chosen because of their message which strengthens the Ward core value of respect. This event is sponsored by the Ward Respect for Human Differences Committee. You can still join us that night even if you have not signed up previously. We hope to see you there!
Even though it seems like spring is far away, spring MCAS will be here before you know it. I'd like to remind the families of all third, fourth, and fifth graders of the testing dates in order to ensure that students will be in attendance on those days. Make-up tests will be scheduled as necessary during the testing periods.

Finally, next Friday is Valentine's Day. This is a wonderful time of community and relationship building. Please keep in mind the Newton Schools' Food Policy. There will be no food at any school parties, and any valentines that students bring in should not contain candy or other foods. We appreciate you following the policy for the safety and good health of our students.
