Ward Serves Day** - Sunday, May 3rd, 9:00 to 12:00

Please mark your calendars for the annual Ward Serves Day. This is a great opportunity to do some community service together with your children and get to know other Ward families. We need volunteers to help with the garden, spread mulch around the playground, rake leaves and for some inside painting projects.

As it's a busy time of year, all are welcome even if you can just serve for an hour.

** NOTE: This date is different from the town wide NewtonServes date due to April vacation.

Please contact Heather Pozen with any questions.

 2015-2016 Ward PTO

Join the team and make a difference! We are in need of the following volunteers for next year's PTO.

Co-President - After serving for two years as Co-President, Cindy Henry is stepping down at the end of the year. We are looking for someone to join Linda Gillespie as Co-President next year.

Grant Writer - For the first time in years, we would like to find someone to help the PTO and school write grants for various programs/projects in and outside of the school.

Website - We are eager to revamp the PTO website and need a person or two who can run this project.

Classifieds - In the past years we've included relevant classifieds at the bottom of the ForWard including camps, after school activities and tutoring info. If we are to resume this service, we need a volunteer to work on this each week.

Please contact Linda Gillespie if you are interested in any of these vacant positions.

5th Grade Community Service Project

This year's 5th grade community service project will benefit Birthday Wishes. The mission of Birthday Wishes is to provide birthday parties for homeless children. We believe that all children, regardless of their living situation, should celebrate their birthdays joyfully, surrounded by family, friends, and others who care. Our grassroots philosophy fosters the spirit of volunteerism and community service in the adults, children, and families who donate their time and resources to the Birthday Wishes mission.

Birthday Wishes brings the magic of a birthday party to thousands of homeless children each year. Founded in 2002 as a volunteer organization serving one local shelter, Birthday Wishes has expanded its program to serve more than 200 shelters and transitional living facilities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Long Island, New York. During the week of April 13-17, the 5th grade will be holding a "goody bag" drive. We are asking the entire school to drop off items (in a bin in the front lobby) that will be put in goody bags for birthday parties for homeless children. Please bring in bouncy balls, pencils, stickers, anything little that is fun and appropriate for a goody bag.

Thank you for your help - The Ward School 5th grade
