From the Principal's Desk
Dear Ward Families,
New School Year Begins:
Eager faces, bright eyes, excited chatter and bundles of positive energy signaled the beginning of the new school year! We are off to a great start!!
It was truly energizing to greet students, families and teachers these last few days. Ward is fortunate to have such a competent, talented, caring staff - your children are in great hands. And, you have all been so welcoming to me in the spirit of a friendly community - thank you!
Students and teachers alike reported that they were so excited to be back and fully enjoyed their first days together. I am sure that as the days and weeks unfold, parents and teachers will continue to work together to ensure that this initial enthusiasm is sustained. Please be in touch with your teachers or me if there is anything we can do to continue to make this is a successful transition from summer to school.
New Routines:
1.       School opening bells:
  • 1st bell at 8:20; students may enter the building.
  • 2nd bell at 8:30; students must be in their seats ready to learn. Students will be marked Tardy if they enter after the 8:30 bell. All later arriving students need to go to the office to check in with Ms. Tempesta. Thank you!

2.       Drop-Off Table in lobby: Forgotten Items (lunches, student work,

    instruments, etc.)

  • On the rare occasion that you, a family member or babysitter plan to drop off a forgotten item at school, please place it on the lobby table and label it with your child's name (paper and pen available) and grade.  A staff member will pop it in your child's cubby/locker with an alert to the student or teacher. This reduces interruptions to classrooms. We appreciate your assistance with this new practice.
Best wishes to all our families who celebrate Rosh Hashanah next week.
Warm regards,
Eva Thompson

Grade-Wide Potluck Dinners - Hosts Needed
As in the past few years, the PTO would like to organize grade-wide pot luck dinners. These nights are a great way to meet and socialize with the other parents in your child's grade. The evening is for adults only and hosts do not cook! They only need to supply paper goods and a big trash can and the guests do the rest.  Your home should be big enough for approximately 50 adults to squeeze in (sitting on the floor or standing is fine.) You choose the night and it can be any month that works for you (although we'd like to have them all happen by January). This is not a sit down meal but rather more of an informal gathering.
Please contact Kathy Shields at  if you can host one of the pot luck dinners for your child's grade.

Mystery Dinner - October 17
Searching for hosts for Ward School's Mystery Dinner!  Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 6:00pm for a great adult night out.  Are you willing to host the appetizer party, small dinner (8-10 people), or dessert party? If so, please contact Lisa Schwarzberg at 917-327-6132.

Newton Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Program
