Welcome - From the Ward PTO
The John Ward Elementary School PTO would like to welcome you to, or back to, our school. We are a volunteer organization made up of parents, friends, relatives, teachers, administrators, and support staff who are all dedicated to the successful education of our children. Our purpose is to aid the students and staff by providing support for educational and recreational needs; to promote open communication between all members, and to encourage Ward school spirit and community pride. We dedicate 100% of our resources, both manpower and monetary, to support the school. You will hear from us on an ongoing basis through email, flyers, and other forms of communication.
We are looking forward to meeting families, parents, grandparents, and friends that would like to get involved with our PTO this school year. We are always looking for those of you to help to make a difference in the lives of our children. Many hands make the job easier. We will need as many volunteers as possible and are flexible enough to work around your schedule. We have many great activities, community events, and fundraisers that will support our children and their time at Ward School, kicking off with the Welcome Picnic and including other great events such as International Night, the Spring Auction, Mystery Dinner, and the Book Fair, to name a few. You will find more information in the Welcome Packet, a set of flyers that has been sent home with your student this week.
We look forward to a great 2016-2017 school year. Please reach out to us if you are interested in becoming an active member of our organization, or if you have any questions.  For a list of volunteer positions, please see this list on the PTO's website.

Grade-Wide Potluck Dinners - Hosts Needed!

Every year, the PTO organizes  grade-wide potluck dinners.  These nights are a great way to meet and socialize with the other parents in your child's grade.  The evening is for adults only and hosts do not cook!  They only need to supply paper goods and a big trash can and guests do the rest.  Your home should be big enough for about 50 adults to stand (this is not a formal sit-down affair - it's much more casual).  You choose the night, and we'll check it against the master calendar.

If you would be willing to host a dinner for your child's grade, please email Kathy Shields, at  We are still looking for hosts for kindergarten, second grade, third grade and fourth grade.

The fifth grade dinner will be on September 16.  Email invitations will go out soon!

Mystery Dinner - October 15

Save the date for the highlight of the fall season - Ward mystery dinner!! October 15th. Please let us know if you are interested in being on the committee or hosting a dinner.  Feel free to contact or Beth Hicks ( or Alexis Giannakopoulos (
