Creative Arts and Sciences Committee (CASC) Update
 
Mr. Len Cabral will be coming to deliver his storytelling program on Monday, December 4th at 9:30 am in the Ward School Library as part of the Creative Arts and Sciences programming.   
 
Mr. Cabral, an African American storyteller, has been enchanting Newton student audiences for years. He presents African, and world and original folk tales with a spellbinding style that includes audience participation, movement and dramatic flair. He has authored two books, Anansi's Narrow Waist and Len Cabral's Storytelling Book. Len inspires teachers to do follow- up work on visualizations and writing. He is widely sponsored and highly regarded in Newton.

3rd Grade Potluck This Weekend!  
 
The 3rd grade potluck will take place on Saturday, December 2.  You should have received an email invitation.  If you did not, please let Kathy Shields know, at kburdetteshields@yahoo.com
 
Potlucks for the 2nd and 5th grade parents will take place in January and February. The 2nd grade on Saturday, January 20 and the 5th grade on Saturday, February 10 (note the date change from what was announced last week).

Newton for a Better World 
 
Saturday, December 2 at 7:00 pm
Newton North High School Auditorium
 
Newton for a Better World, opening with "The Secret to Happiness: Ancient Wisdom, Modern Science" by Dr. Sanjiv Chopra, Internationally renowned motivational speaker and author, Professor of Medicine and former Faculty Dean, Harvard Medical School
 
This inspirational evening will be headlined by Dr. Sanjiv Chopra, a sought-after speaker across the United States and abroad and author of nine books on topics related to medicine, leadership, happiness, and living with purpose.  His books include The Two Most Important Days: how to find your purpose-and live a happier, healthier life andBrotherhood: Dharma, Destiny and the American Dream, a double memoir written with his brother Deepak Chopra, who is also a renowned speaker and author.
 
Featured speakers will be the founders of several area nonprofits and community efforts--Hope and Comfort, Stand Up Campaign, and Pie in the Sky-along with Newton North students who are taking action and serving others.
 
The evening will include displays of students' community and volunteer work and a dessert bar featuring Cabot's ice cream!
 
This event is open to all Newton students and families so seating will be limited. Doors will open at 6:30.

Ward Community Connections
 
We're hosting our first Ward-only meeting of the year on Tuesday, December 5th at 7pm at Becca's house at 12 Wachussett Rd. 
 
Please join us to discuss events and activities for this school year, and share your thoughts on how to enhance our school community. We hope to include a spectrum of voices, perspectives and experiences and need your help, even if your time is limited!

Walk to School Wednesday - December 6th
 
Mark your calendars for the last Walk to School Wednesday of 2017! Bundle up and get ready for some fun jokes and surprises! 

Mid January - Online Auction!
 
Be on the lookout for more information in weeks to come.  In January, we are going to have an on-line auction featuring camps and other activities.

Moms' Night Out
 
Moms! Show off your artistic or not so artistic skills, and have fun with us on January 25th at 6:30pm at the Paint Bar in Newton (823 Washington St., Newtonville)

Sign up now, and don't forget to put "Ward School" in the section of ""With whom would you like be seated".  We will paint, have some wine, and have some fun!  Please join us!
