Safety in Newton Public Schools
Dear NPS Families,
Below is a link to my superintendent newsletter. The topic is safety in the Newton Public Schools and shares information with you on our updated procedures for emergency situations.
In October, students in all schools will be practicing these new protocols during safety drills. Your principals will reach out to you with more specific information.

Potluck Dinner Hosts Needed for Grades 1-5
Thank you to Joe and Renee Moran for hosting the October 11th Kindergarten Potluck (Evite on the way).  Let's get the other grades on the calendar!
You choose the night between now and December and we'll help you through the planning process.  Your home should have enough space to accommodate approximately 50 adults in an informal setting.  Hosts only need to supply paper goods and drinks and the guests will bring food based on assignment.
If you are willing to be a host for your grade, please contact Laurie Ufland.

Ward Special Education Parent Advisory
Council (SEPAC) Meeting
Does your child have an IEP or 504 plan? Are you interested in getting support services for your child? Are you an ally who believes in the importance of Inclusion?

Then SEPAC is for you! Please join other Ward parents, Principal Becca Brogadir, and our Ward Team Specialist Cynthia Silverman on October 23, 7-8pm, to learn all about SEPAC. We will discuss the city-wide role of SEPAC and our goals to support families and Inclusion at Ward. Light refreshments will be served!
SEPAC Liaison -
Hi Ward Families, my name is Marriah Vengroff and I am the SEPAC liaison for Ward. This is our third year at Ward and I have a daughter in kindergarten and a son in second grade. I am excited to work with parents, teachers, and administrators on important inclusion initiatives in the Ward community this year. Please feel free to contact me at with any ideas, questions, concerns, or just to say hello. I hope you will join us on October 23rd!

More about SEPAC
SEPAC is a volunteer organization of parents of children with special needs from preschool through high school.  We run an online forum where parents can ask each other about special education programs, issues, policies and resources both within and outside of the public-school system.  We work directly with the school administration regarding our children's' special education through our school liaisons, meetings with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and by attending Newton School Committee meetings.  In addition to sponsoring monthly speakers here in Newton, we publicize presentations and conferences held by other SEPACs and organizations in the area.  We also hold monthly board meetings that are open to all parents whose dates are listed on our website - please join us!  In the meantime, you can join our online community at  You can also contact me directly with any questions or concerns about your student at Ward

International Walk to School Day
This week students across the world will make a commitment to walking/biking/bussing to school. We will celebrate at Ward by kicking off our monthly Walk and Roll to Ward Days TODAY

All walkers/bikers/bussers will get a sticker and one lucky walker/biker/busser will win a raffle for a new bike lock courtesy of Landry's Bicycles. We welcome Newton City Councilors Becky Walker Grossman and Marc Laredo to join our Ward Walkers and encourage all those who are able to participate! Together we will reduce traffic & harmful vehicle emissions in front of our school; make a commitment to our own personal health goals; and foster the Ward community spirit by coming together that morning.

Ward Night at Boston Celtics
Join friends from the Ward School community to cheer on The Boston Celtics together on January 8, 2020 at 7pm. Order forms can be found here

A small portion of the ticket fee benefits the Ward PTO and it's critical programming. Kindly return order forms and payment (made out to Ward PTO) to the labeled box in the front lobby of the school.

Please read the important details about receiving tickets on the form.

Go Celtics! And Go Ward!
