Authorfest at Ward
On November 6th, Judith Jango-Cohen will be speaking with the K-2nd Students.
Brian Lies will be speaking with the 3rd-5th Students.
A parent-volunteer is still needed for the K-2nd program to be run smoothly.
Pre-Order CAS AuthorFest books between now and October 25!
A selection of books from all 25 participating authors and illustrators is now available for pre-ordering.* Pre-ordered books will be delivered to your child's school. They can then bring their book(s) to Zervas Elementary School library on November 6, between 3:15-5:30 PM to have their book signed during the afterschool event. (For students who cannot attend, we will arrange to have your books signed by the author.) Books will also be available for sale at the event. A purchase is not required to attend.
The deadline for pre-orders is October 25th.
To pre-order your books here, follow this link to the order form:
Newtonville Books is facilitating the book sale portion of the event. 20% of proceeds from the sale will go to Creative Arts & Sciences to offset costs of the event.
*For families experiencing financial hardship, a limited number of scholarships have been set aside to assist with book purchases. Eligible families will receive books at a greatly reduced price. Please contact Stacey Moriarty, CAS Director, for more information.
CAS AuthorFest is made possible by a grant from the Newton Schools Foundation, a contribution from The Village Bank, and your generous contributions to your PTO. Newton Schools Foundation is proud to support the 2019 CAS AuthorFest. Through contributions from individuals and businesses throughout the Newton community, NSF is able to provide funding for important educational programs that impact students and teachers district-wide. A percentage of the book sale proceeds will go to CAS to help defray the cost of the CAS AuthorFest event.
Thank you for your continued support of NPS' Creative Arts & Sciences. We hope to see you at the event!

Ward School Directory
By now you should have received the invaluable copy of the Ward School Directory. You might end up opening this book more often than any other book during the school year. If for some reason you haven't received a copy, please contact Susan Tempesta. There are spare copies in the office.
When you are on the go you can always connect to any Ward family via the online version of MembershipToolkit. The app is available for download on the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
There is also a link here to the online Directory through the Ward PTO website.
If you have trouble accessing the online directory please contact the Directory team at
Last but not least, this would not be possible without our marvelous Directory team - Ron Farrar, Sarah Lenz, and Kathy Shields. BIG THANK YOU for putting everything together and raising money for Ward school.

3 Down, 3 to Go!
Potluck Dinner Hosts Needed for Grades 1, 3, and 4
Kindergarten Potluck rescheduled for November 15th!  Joe and Renee Moran
2nd Grade Potluck rescheduled for February 29!  co-hosts: Caitlin & Matt Cusick and Jen & Alex Ewing
5th Grade Potluck November 15th!  Sandra & Kevin Kelley
You choose the night between now and December and we'll help you through the planning process.  Your home should have enough space to accommodate approximately 50 adults in an informal setting.  Hosts only need to supply paper goods and drinks and the guests will bring food based on assignment.
If you are willing to be a host for your grade, please contact Laurie Ufland.

Walk and Roll to Ward
Join us Friday, November 1st for our autumn walk and roll to Ward! Students who bus, bike or walk (including park and walk in an effort to reduce traffic in front of the building) will participate in building our community "pumpkin turkey". The many feathers added to our turkey that day will demonstrate the volume of our walkers and rollers at Ward and set the stage for our season of gratitude.

Lost and Found
The Lost and Found is located in the school entrance foyer. Please have your child check for missing items or come in to school and check out the Lost and Found (after signing in at the office). Please consider writing your students name on sweaters, jackets, water bottles, etc. Items not picked up will be donated every other month.

If you have any questions, please contact Sandra Kelley at
