From the Co-Presidents
Thank you to the community for supporting fifth graders with their pizza sale on Thursday. Stay tuned for more fun opportunities to support the graduating class.

Thank you to Alicia Piedalue and Matt McGinnis for their wonderful hospitality showing second grade parents a great time on Saturday night!

Finally, are you interested in Math tutoring for your child in 2-5th grade? If so, check out our partnership with IvyMath. IvyMath grew out of the success Mathnasium had with virtual tutoring during Covid and will send the Ward PTO a donation for each student who signs up for a free evaluation. More information below!

Walk, Roll & Ride to School Day
International Walk, Roll & Ride to School Day is October 12. In preparation, Newton parents and caregivers - what is it that keeps you or your children from walking or biking safely to your destination? Be part of the solution and alert the City of Newton via Newton 311 and/or your Safe routes to school representative Keren Wainger (keren.wainger@gmail.com).

Potholes, sidewalk repairs, traffic signals not working, faded or missing crosswalks, shrubs overtaking the sidewalk. Snap a photo, note the location, and submit to Newton 311.

Make Newton safer for everyone!

Ward Fun Run Progress Update
When this newsletter went to “print” the competition was tough! 2K is leading the registration goal and 1H is leading the fundraising goal! Collectively as a school we are at 22% of our fundraising goal and have LOTS of registrations still to come in.

Ward Fun Run - What do I need to do?
We are excited to introduce a new event this year, the Ward FUN Run. With an emphasis on fun, the Ward FUN Run will promote our community in a fun, healthy way while raising funds for Ward School. The event is planned for October 27, during the school day from 9:00-11:30.

What is the Ward FUN Run?

Each grade level will have 30 minutes to run, walk, or skip the ¼ mile route around the Ward baseball fields on 27 October. Teachers will get the fun started with a 10-minute warm up/stretch, and then students will have about 20 minutes to do as many laps as they would like in whatever fashion suits them!

How Do We Participate?

There are two ways to participate.

1. REGISTER YOUR CHILD:
Please help support our FUN Run by registering your child here. Once registered you can easily share your child’s donation page via email or social media to solicit donations from relatives and friends. Donations can also be sent by cash/check to the school; checks can be made out to WardPTO.

Donations are per child, not per lap. Regardless of donations, all students get to participate in the Fun Run and all students will receive a t-shirt!

2. JOIN US:
We would love to see you on the day of the event to cheer on your child/ren. There are also several volunteer opportunities, including set up, handing out water and snacks, taking photos, guiding students around the course, and helping to clean up! Sign up here.

3. Questions? Contact Penny at  ismay@bc.edu

IvyMath Fundraiser and Partnership
Have your child's math skills assessed and raise money for the Ward PTO! IvyMath.com is partnering with the Ward PTO to assist our students and raise money at the same time! IvyMath does personalized, online math learning for kids in grades 2-9. Sign up for a FREE online math assessment at IvyMath.com/Free (grades 2-9 only). After the free assessment, you’ll receive an overview of your child’s math strengths and weaknesses, and the Ward PTO will receive a $25 donation from IvyMath thanks to you. Have a child in middle school too? You can sign up any child in grades 2-9. They do not have to be a Ward student to earn the $25 donation to the PTO.

This fundraiser runs for one week only - October 2-8. There are limited slots available, so please make sure to act quickly. Go to: IvyMath.com/Free to schedule your free assessment.
