MCAS Scores

John Ward Elementary School
To parents of fourth and fifth grade students

From the Principal

To parents of students in grades four and five:

You will soon be receiving the results of the MCAS tests that were given to third and fourth graders last spring.  An individual student report that provides specific information about your child's performance on these assessments as well as aggregate results for Ward School, Newton, and states scores will be mailed to you shortly.  I want to remind you that these results are just one measure of your child's performance and should be considered as a portion of a total assessment system.

When the results arrive, I ask that you use your discretion and sensitivity if you chose to share them with your son/daughter.  The report is written for adults and may not be meaningful for children to read. I recommend that you summarize the results and share the relevant information in a general way.  I do not feel that specific scores are appropriate to discuss with children.  Since these results are private, please remind your child not to discuss them with other children.

If you have any questions, please contact me at school.

Sincerely,
Audrey Parad Peller, Principal
