Help Needed for Understanding Our Differences

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

The Understanding Our Differences Program will present the unit on Developmental Disabilities in your child's class on Friday, April 11th from 1-3. The goal of the program is to increase information, understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities and individual differences at our school and in our community.

In this unit, we will explore the concept that people with developmental disabilities confront challenges in multiple areas of
development.  However, although they are slow to learn they do learn.
We will discuss how name-calling is hurtful and cannot be confronted passively.  Students must stand up for each other in order to make our schools and communities safer.  The experiences in this unit can help increase sensitivity to and respect for the children and adults with developmental disabilities who live, attend school, and work in our community.

We are looking for 8 parent volunteers to help with activities in the classroom on Friday April 11th from 1-3.  No experience necessary!  This is a great opportunity to be in your child's classroom and to participate in a wonderful program.  If you are interested or have any questions, please contact me at  randjross@comcast.net

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Rachelle
