This Week at Ward- October 17th

John Ward Elementary School
This Week at Ward- October 17th

Thursday, October 23rd

Early Release 12:30-3:00pm

We need your help! We need to raise $4,500 to make playground improvements so we can pave the wallball court, add hopscotch, improve four-square, and replace rotting wood on the playground structure. Don't miss this opportunity to raise money for the playground while having fun and getting fit.  Ward Afterschool staff and parent volunteers will supervise four fun-filled activity stations (Basketball, Wallball, Freeze Dance and Jump Rope/HulaHoop).    If we are to reach our goal, participants need to average approximately $50 in pledges---so please consider donating even if you can't attend this fun event.   Click here to donate online and order Pizza.  Checks, pizza orders, and pledge forms can also be returned in the Lobby.

Kindly forward this email to grandparents, family members and friends who wish to sponsor your child and support our school.

5 Walking School Bus Routes

What's a walking school bus?  It's a group of schoolchildren who, chaperoned by one or more adults, walk to school in much the same way a school bus would drive them to school.  Check out the map in the lobby to find the nearest of the five routes, contact your route coordinator, and try it out!  It's a great way to get excercise and you'll be amazed at how much easier it is to get the kids out the door (they never want to miss the bus!)   Click here to see route and coordinator information.

Excellence in Education Ward students have once again topped the MCAS charts. The 5th graders ranked 2nd highest in English and 4th highest in Math out of 912 Massachusetts elementary schools during last year's spring MCAS test.   Great job teachers and students!  For more details about comparative MCAS scores see Boston GlobeSchooldiggerand  PSK12.com.

Save Your Box Tops It's an easy way to raise money for Ward.  They're on hundreds of products including many you probably already use. Just tear out this symbol, collect in a drawer, and deposit in the lobby every few months.  Most families average $10-$25 worth of box tops.  That can add up to several thousand dollars a year for the school.
