John Ward Elementary School

This Week at Ward- May 3rd

Teacher Appreciation Week
Ward School's teachers are amazing at providing a nurturing and supportive environment for our children.   This week is our opportunity to express how grateful we are to have them as part of our community. In recognition of National Teacher Appreciation Week, the Ward School PTO is sponsoring a luncheon on Tuesday, May 5th at 12:30 p.m. in honor of our teachers and staff.  Don't forget to send a child's note, flash a nice smile, or say a kind word to our great teachers.   We are so lucky to have them.

Newton Walk to School Day

Wed., May 6th

Did you know that in Newton almost a quarter of morning rush-hour traffic is generated by parents driving their children to school?  That's about 2,300 Newton children driven to school on an average day, just in the elementary schools alone.  These kids miss out on learning important pedestrian safety skills, social interaction and daily exercise.  Ward has organized "walking school buses": parents who take turns walking with their kids, with schoolmates joining them along the route.   It's a great way to get to know your neighbors better, has great social benefits for the kids and parents, and promotes the health benefits of daily exercise in this time of growing childhood obesity.  Walking is good for the environment,
good for families and with the weather cooperating it's time to put the car keys away.  Make May 6th the day your family resolves to start the life-long.  For more info about your nearest walking school bus route contact Karin Gavish or Maria Sullivan.

Art Show

Wed., May 6th 7:00-8:30 pm

Stop by to see the beautiful art created by Ward school children.  Pizza and dessert will be offered for sale by the 5th graders to support the drinking fountain recently installed on the playing fields for the 5th class gift.
